this was one of my first binaural attempts, apparently foiled by a combination of wind noise, quiet subject, and electrical hum. my naive attempt to correct the hum by resort to a “noise removal” algorithm revealed the truth about my recording. it was not, as i had thought at the time, the sound of rigging slapping against the masts of sailboats in drydock at greenwich, CT on a windy winter day. rather, i had captured (masked by the “noise,” clearly) a coded conversation between scuba-diving robots. but don’t take my word for it…
